How does the Node Solution work?
Visitors hire Node Explorers from a Visitor Centre. As soon as they walk outside, location aware on-screen maps show visitors where they are. As visitors explore the site, the Node Explorer automatically triggers audio visual content at the very point where it is most relevant, and then guides them along the route to the next point of interest.
For indoor experiences, you can create imaginative menus for navigating museums and galleries. |
How long does the experience take? |
You can choose to go at your own pace, stopping to take in the views or discuss with friends and family the information you have just explored. Others may eagerly venture on to the next interactive location. At any point during the tour, the user can pause, stop, go back to a previous location or move forward quickly to the next. |

| Can content be updated at a live site? |
Yes. Content can easily be updated and managed, using web based software. Any member of staff needing to update the content or access data will be given password protected access to your own area of the Node website. |
| How is content uploaded on the Explorer? |
The multimedia programme created on Node's web based software is automatically updated on each Explorer assigned to that project. Updates to an Explorer's content occur wirelessly when the device is within network range.
When the user takes the Explorer into any given environment they can then enjoy the broadcast quality and unique reference without any concern for connectivity. What's more the experience can be refreshed and reinvigorated to incorporate new attractions and promote return visits. |

Can the Node solution handle very large installations with over 200 Explorers? |
Absolutely. We have solved the major headaches of location based media solutions: scalability, reliability, manageability, experience quality. We have achieved this by taking a fresh look at the needs of such a platform and building from the ground up, rather than starting with a related technology and customising it to fit.
Our platform allows the mass deployment (complete and failsafe) of content to large numbers of devices, so project initiation and ongoing content updates are possible while the devices are at your site.

How much does a Node Explorer cost? |
The Node Explorer isn’t sold as a single unit. It comes as part of a complete platform package that includes Explorers, multi-chargers, and access to our secure hosted website where experiences are created and managed. This is the Node solution. The platform is so simple to set up and use that location based experiences can be built in a matter of days.
The Node platform provides excellent value for money. You will be amazed at how fast some of our customer have generated profits well beyond their initial investment.

What are the replacement costs? |
The Node Solution is sold under a comprehensive 1 year warranty. Component parts can be replaced, but if a whole unit needs replacing outside the agreed warranty period, then it is simply the current cost of the unit at the time of purchase |

What media types does the platform use? |
The Node platform can handle virtually any video, audio and image formats that you can think of. When media is uploaded to the Node website, it is automatically converted for playback on the Explorer. We understand that the quality of media playback is of paramount importance, so the Node platform has been built with broadcast quality media in mind. The Explorer uses the brightest screen on the market for full screen video playback, and the sound is breathtaking!

Does the Node Platform support Flash? |
No, Flash is a proprietary language the inclusion of which would prohibit both the quality and flexibility of the location based media experience.
A vector-based graphics technology, Flash was designed 10 years ago to overcome the graphical limitations of low-bandwidth connections for users on the internet. Node's solution has the same level of focus designed for the foolproof delivery of location based media to a now high quality, interactive media-savvy, mass-market.
At the heart of the Node platform is an ethos of delivering cinematic, broadcast quality media experiences efficiently and in a manner that is entirely future proofed for content authors and users alike. To achieve this, Node relies on open standard technologies, such as Linux, XML, J2EE, MPEG & OGG media formats. This enables our clients to build cost effective projects swiftly, dramatically reduce the overheads of ongoing management, and eventually deploy them to as many media consumption devices as they like, irrespective of operating system.
A content author can take existing material (in the format in which it is stored in their archives), build it into a project without any need to worry about a cumbersome bespoke user interface or navigation woes, and know for certain that this material can be deployed to practically any device which plays back video, audio and images. |

What skills do I need to create an experience? |
The content production skill of your team is essential to the creation of really thrilling stories. Content mined from the archives, and content newly created, are integrated to build the highest quality audiovisual experience.
Do we need to install any software to build experiences? |
No, all you need is a browser to access our ingenious hosted web application for creating experiences. Node takes care of all aspects of the service so that you can concentrate on building compelling experiences for your sites.

How robust is the Explorer? |
The Explorer was built for intensive use by the public, and is far more robust than hardware based around PDAs. It is splash-proof and drop-proof, and is currently used in the great outdoors in a number of environments, notably in the Scottish Highlands!
The Explorer's software is based on the linux operating system which provides unbeatable reliability.
The Explorer sits alongside the mobile phone and iPod in today's world, having been custom designed and built to excel in its field.

How do I map a user's position? |
Graphically enhanced maps will show the user where they are with respect to the main attractions and interaction zones as defined by the creative team on the Node Engine.
What if I want to use an Explorer for longer than its battery life? |
Whilst the Explorer is capable of a full day's continuous playback without any need to recharge, there may be occasions where the Explorer is needed for longer than this.
Node have devised in car adaptors and single unit chargers so that the Explorer can be taken on overnight journeys, increasing the scope and range of a traveller's experience and allowing them to delve further off the beaten track than ever before.

Are there branding options available? |
Yes. The Explorers can be branded in terms of colour and the labels on the front. You can even brand the chargers! Of course, effective branding can also be provided by placing advertising and sponsors' content within a media experience.
