He has been a private investor for many years, both personally and on behalf of others. He started his career as an investment manager at Johnson Fry with responsibility for appraising and completing early stage investments.
Spencer spent five years at Price Waterhouse in the business advisory group working with a focus on SME and consumer product clients.
In 1996 he joined CMI, an early stage IT market research and online database business as a founder director. The Company spent 2 years developing an innovative online information service aimed at managers in large corporations. Spencer led a management buy out of this loss making Company and successfully turned it into a profitable business.
Between 1998 and 2000 Spencer launched an online careers advisory and niche recruitment business and consulted to a number of internet start-ups and investors about their businesses.
From 2000 to 2003 Spencer worked as a director of iMPOWER Group plc, latterly as CEO. Throughout that time he had responsibility for a small venture fund, where he completed a number of investments. Spencer is a currently a non-executive director of Deliverance, UKprocure, iMPOWER Group plc and has sat on the board of a number of other Companies.
Spencer received a B.A. in History from Bristol University and he is a Chartered Accountant.
